Andrew Irungu Chege
(b.1996)
My work is a portrayal of my outlook on life. Being a goal oriented person, I portray my experiences along the road to success by using soldiers as a motif. They appear to be abandoned in harsh and tense environments; galactic worlds with missions and a strong will to succeed implied.
I choose to portray the intensity and criticality of these 'missions' through the friction between canvas and heavily applied acrylics implying a vastness and uncertainty inherent in life's situations. All this is an expression of the spiritual, social and political aspects of my life as I navigate this world of ours.
My work is a way to strive against the odds as well as encourage this in others.
