Using the human body as a point of reference, I am concerned with its nature as an object in space and the many ways in which communication manifests between people. There is something endlessly fascinating about the human frame and how it creases and bends, straightens and softens, folds, breaks and sways to its environments.

I consider my work to be a weaving of these layers not only through manipulation of media but active engagement with the viewer. By using the body as a recurring motif, I place the passive observer in an active position in which I ask that they question their relationship to space (both physically and temporally) as well as their relationship to their own physicality.

Jonathan attended Kenyatta University as part of the BFA program with a major in painting and sculpture. He is currently working as a studio assistant alongside his  expanding personal practice.

His work has been exhibited variously in Nairobi and was a part of the 2017 Kenya Art Fair's Wasanii Exhibition.

He lives and works in Nairobi
